چکیده

Timed automata can be studied in not only a dense-time setting but also a discrete-time setting. The most common example of discrete-time semantics is the so called sampled semantics (i.e., discrete semantics with a xed time granularity "). In the real-time setting, the universality problem is known to be undecidable for timed automata. In this work, we study the universality question for the languages accepted by timed automata with sampled semantics. On the negative side, we show that deciding whether for all sampling periods " a timed automaton accepts all timed words in "-sampled semantics is as hard as in the real-time case, i.e., undecidable. On the positive side, we show that checking whether there is a sampling period such that a timed automaton accepts all untimed words in "-sampled semantics is decidable. Our proof uses clock di erence relations, developed to characterize the reachability relation for timed automata in connection with sampled semantics.

Universality Analysis for One-Clock Timed Automata

This paper is concerned with the universality problem for timed automata: given a timed automatonA, doesA accept all timed words? Alur and Dill have shown that the universality problem is undecidable if A has two clocks, but they left open the status of the problem when A has a single clock. In this paper we close this gap for timed automata over infinite words by showing that the one-clock uni...

Undecidability of Universality for Timed Automata with Minimal Resources

Timed automata were introduced by Alur and Dill in the early 1990s and have since become the most prominent modelling formalism for real-time systems. A fundamental limit to the algorithmic analysis of timed automata, however, results from the undecidability of the universality problem: does a given timed automaton accept every timed word? As a result, much research has focussed on attempting t...

Universality and Language Inclusion for Open and Closed Timed Automata

The algorithmic analysis of timed automata is fundamentally limited by the undecidability of the universality problem. For this reason and others, there has been considerable interest in restricted classes of timed automata. In this paper we study the universality problem for two prominent such subclasses: open and closed timed automata. This problem is described as open in [6, 8] in the case o...

On the Undecidability of Universality for Timed Automata with Minimal Resources

In 1994 Alur and Dill introduced timed automata and showed that universality was undecidable there. Since then it has been shown that under certain restrictions the problem becomes decidable. But the frontier between decidability and undecidability is still vast. We aim at narrowing this gap considerably. Our main accomplishment is to prove that universality stays undecidable over weakly monoto...

Exact Incremental Analysis of Timed Automata with an SMT-Solver

Timed automata as acceptors of languages of finite timed words form a very useful framework for the verification of safety properties of real-time systems. Many of the classical automata-theoretic decision problems are undecidable for timed automata, for instance the inclusion or the universality problem. In this paper we consider restrictions of these problems: universality for deterministic t...
